Dear students,

For discussion #2, you can choose to answer only part A or B, you do not need to answer both. If you choose to answer about your opportunity cost of getting a college degree, please see below some hints.

When asked about your opportunity cost of going to college, please think about the value of the next best thing you have sacrificed and ask yourself:

  • What would you have earned?
  • What would you have saved (e.g., tuition)?
  • If spent on food, would you have incurred such expense regardless of your choice? If this is the case, should this expense be added to your opportunity cost of a choice?

When asked about the benefit of going to college, please think about these questions:

  • Would you earn more with a degree compared to without? Would this be a benefit?
  • Would you have more job security?
  • Would you be me likely to find a job that you enjoy doing?
  • Would you get any satisfaction from learning?

When you compare cost and benefit, your choice would be worth it if benefit is higher than cost. Would you agree?

Please provide constructive feedback to the other students. Be polite, respectful, understanding, helpful, and caring. If you received a grade, you can resubmit it by the extended deadline.

Regards,

Prof. Tila
